Notes

Founded by Tré Seals in 2016, a type foundry for creatives of color and women. Each typeface tells a story from historical movements—Civil Rights, womens suffrage, Stonewall riots. Notable fonts include Martin (inspired by 1968 Memphis Sanitation Strike, used by Netflix for "What Happened, Miss Simone?"), Bayard (1963 March on Washington, used for 2020 virtual March identity), and VTC Ruby (reclaimed from former "Jim Crow" typeface, named after Ruby Bridges). 17 typefaces released, each drawn from historical documentation. Inspired by Dr. Cheryl D. Holmes-Millers 1986 essay "Black Designers: Still Missing in Action."
